About
“Bombing the Suburbs”
We will not bomb them with Mission Statements.
Pipebomb Media is a nonprofit organization that connects the literary and arts communities of southeast Wisconsin with larger national and global markets. Pipebomb will enrich the cultural capital and aesthetic consciousness of Kenosha and Racine by promoting local artists and writers beyond their geographic boundaries and by importing the work and knowledge of other writers and artists into the region.
Pipebomb also serves as a training ground for community members to learn, practice and publish literature, arts journalism and visual art while they gain other professional skills in an inclusive and professional arts-media environment.
Pipebomb works toward developing an artistic economy that appreciates the value of literacy, cultural awareness, equality, and participatory interaction, and which involves community youth in maintaining such standards.
We will not bomb them with Program Descriptions.
Pipebomb Media has developed three programs through which it achieves its goals.
We will not Bomb them with a Magazine.
Pipebomb: A Magazine of Visual & Language Art is a monthly magazine that features poems, stories, visual art and interviews from local and nationally recognized artists. Pipebomb Magazine will also include news and reviews of the Kenosha and Racine county arts events. Available free as a PDF download as well as in limited-edition print runs every month through select retailers. Pipebomb will seek out advertising revenue, as it sees compensating artists for their labors as a high priority.
We will not bomb them on the air.
Pipebomb: Audio Bombcast serves as the free podcast complement to the print/PDF magazine and features audio performances by local poets, musicians and fiction writers, alongside additional interviews, discussion, and news content better suited for a non-print medium. We’ll supplement our program content with PSAs from nonprofits and thanks to our sponsors. In addition, the Bombcast crew is available to write, perform, and produce audio ads as well. Look for the bombcast in March…
We will not bomb them with chapbooks.
Pipebomb will publish Pipebomb: Chapbomb Editions, four 40-page chapbooks of poetry, every year. Two of these books will be drawn from contest submissions: one open to writers across the nation, the other open only to writers living in Wisconsin and Illinois. Published writers will also receive an honorarium and multiple copies of their limited-edition, hand-bound chapbook. The remaining two books will feature the work of writers solicited by Pipebomb for their superior dedication to contemporary literature. All books will be available in limited print editions and in free downloadable PDF. Our first chapbook contest submission period will open in June. Check back later for more details.
